Öppet seminarium på Karlstads universitet

Professor Rättö, RISE Bioeconomy, Papermaking & Packaging, håller ett öppet seminarium under titeln "The Influence Of Coating Colour Composition, Corona Treatment And Extrusion Temperature On The Adhesion Between Coated Paper And PE".

Karlstads universitets institution för Ingenjörs- och kemivetenskap erbjuder varannan måndag kl 14:30 öppna föreläsningar inom olika ämnen. Normalt tar seminariet cirka 45 minuter. Det är kostnadsfritt och ingen föranmälan krävs.

Vid nästa seminarie den 8 maj i sal 3B 512, håller professor Peter Rättö från RISE Bioekonomi ett anförande med titeln “The Influence Of Coating Colour Composition, Corona Treatment And Extrusion Temperature On The Adhesion Between Cated Paper And PE”.

Abstract: This presentation reports on an experimental study on the impact of binders of the coating layer on the adhesion between the coated layer and an extruded PE film.

Coated paper sheets were taped onto a roll of liquid carton board and the roll was coated with PE in a pilot extruder. The adhesion between the paper and PE layer was measured by pulling the coated paper from the PE layer in a screw material tester. The study showed that the type of binder and the amount of binder had a high influence on the adhesion. Corona treatment increased the adhesion of the samples with only S/B latex as binder while decreased adhesion could be observed with Corona treatment for samples with high starch contents. The differences in adhesion could be explained by acid-base interactions between the coating layer and the PE layer. However, this requires oxidation of the PE surface due to high extrusion temperatures.
